Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad are surely the biggest celebrations connected with a national holiday of the Czech Republic. They have been taking place for 16 years already, on the occasion of the Day of the Slavonic Missionaries Saints Cyril and Methodius.

more informationOn the occasion of the “Cyrillo-Methodian jubilee”, educational workshops for children and youth will emerge, the main aim of which will be to familiarize children with the Cyrillo-Methodian legacy in an amusing and practical way.
‘The Way of the Two Brothers’ is the title of an art competition for children 3 to 11 years of age. It is regularly announced within the July Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad. The aim of the project is to explain roots of our culture to children, impairing a positive model for life in the present.
It is an important spiritual center, a destination of frequent ecclesiastic pilgrimages, gatherings and Cyrillo-Methodian celebrations.

On Thursday 27th June 2013, an event will take place in the seat of the Senate, in the Wallenstein Palace at the Lesser Town of Prague, which will commemorate the important anniversary of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Under the auspices of the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milan Štěch, an exhibition of works created by a very successful restorer and painter of icons, Lenka Vlkova, will have a festive exhibition opening there. Works of art and restoration, related to the Orthodox Church, created by this first-rate female artist are well-known in the whole Europe. Mrs. Vlkova participated in restoration projects for example in Orthodox monasteries in Greece or in Germany. Her icons, making use of the poetics of renowned Byzantine masters, are also very successful and they decorate a number of Orthodox churches but also homes of Christians who are close to the Orthodox Church.

In cooperation with the State Regional Archive in Zlín three lectures, which will be delivered by historians, are prepared for January and February. They will deal with Great Moravian architecture, Velehrad in the Middle Ages and the local monastery, and the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition in the Baroque art. The lectures are intended for general public. They will include also pictorial presentations as well as a space for discussion and debates answering questions from the audience. They will take place in the small auditorium of the library division for music. Entrance fee CZK 30 (reduced for children and seniors CZK 20).

In the year dedicated to the legacy of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of missionaries to Great Moravia, the theme of this year's Czech-German conference of the Czech Association "Sdružení Ackermann-Gemeinde" (SAG), which takes place on 25th - 27th January 2013, is "Beginnings of Evangelization: Dialogue of Spirituality and Society at that Time and Nowadays".

This year, we commemorate two important anniversaries. The first one is connected with the Cyrillo-Methodian celebrations (1150 years since the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius to Moravia). The other one commemorates the foundation or "restoration" of the Olomouc Bishopric in 1063.

The publication "Spiritual Legacy of Moravia and Silesia", issued by the Olomouc Region, the South Moravian Region, the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Zlín Region, was introduced at a press conference within the REGIONTOUR 2013 fair at the Brno Exhibition Center on Thursday 17th January 2013.
