Olomouc: Those interested will commemorate the other anniversary, 950 years of the Olomouc bishopric, by e.g. a new exhibition which will be installed in the exhibition hall of the Archbishop's Palace in Olomouc and in the Cathedral of Saint Wenceslas at the beginning of the summer tourist season (the official seat of the bishops of Olomouc has been open to the public since May 2011) or also a series of educational popularizing lectures focused on chosen personalities of bishops and archbishops of Olomouc, among whom we can find important diplomats, buildres, art sponsors, supporters of the life of society and industry but also supporters of charitable and charity activities.
The first contributions will be delivered by Prof. Miloslav Pojsl, who will focus on the beginnings of the Olomouc Bishopric. In February, it will be a contribution titled "From Saint Methodius to the Olomouc Bishopric". In the following month, it will be "Beginnings of the Olomouc Bishopric and its Further Development – Bishops Robert and Bruno von Schauenburg". In April, he will talk about the personality of Bishop Jindřich Zdík. Further on, the lectures to follow will be devoted to František Dietrichstein, Charles II of Liechtenstein-Castelcorn (an important builder and art sponsor), Rudolf Jan (a student and later a sponsor of Ludwig van Beethoven), to Bedřich Fürstenberk and Theodor Kohn. The last contribution will commemorate the personality of Josef Karel Matocha, who was interned in the Olomouc residence by the communist regime.
The lectures are intended for the broadest public and they will be organized always on the second Wednesday of the respective month (however, in May, it will be only the third Wednesday) in the premises of the Archbishop's Palace in Olomouc. The beginning is always at 5 p.m. and there is no set admission fee. After the lectures, those interested may also look forward to a tour of the interior of the residence of the bishops of Olomouc. You can find topical information regarding the program and its modifications on the following website arcibiskupskypalac.ado.cz or by phone: 587 405 421.

Here are our roots.
(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)
They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.
(Blessed John Paul II)
For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.
(Blessed John Paul II)
Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.
(Blessed John Paul II)
The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.
Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
(Blessed John Paul II)
