On their Thursday meeting (24th January 2013), the council of the South Moravian Region acknowledged the interest of the Masaryk Museum in Hodonín, founded by the region, to enter into partnership with the Zlín Region on the implementation of the extension of the European cultural path of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The deputy governor, Stanislav Juránek, informed about that at a press conference after the deliberations of the regional council on Thursday.
The aim of the project is to extend the existing pilgrims' path of Saints Cyril and Methodius that connects Sv. Kopeček, Sv. Hostýn, Velehrad and Sv. Antonínek by another segment that would connect Sv. Antonínek, Mikulčice, Kopčany (Slovakia), Gbely (Slovakia) and Šaštín (Slovakia). "The new segment will extend the existing path from 130 to 200 kilometers. Mapping of the terrain is part of the project, as well as routing, processing of a unified methodology of marking, mapping of tourist services in the vicinity of the path and securing propagation of the pilgrims' path by means of an information bulletin. Thus, the Cyrillo-Methodian path will enter the Trnava Self-Governing Region. At the same time, there is a chance for international paths to be included in the European network of pilgrims' paths," explained Stanislav Juránek.
The Zlín Region is the proposer of the request for financing of the project titled "European Cultural Path of Saints Cyril and Methodius – Extension of the Route" from the Fund for Microprojects within the operational program "European Territorial Cooperation Slovakia – The Czech Republic". The total costs are estimated to CZK 588,000. The Zlín Region asks the Fund for Microprojects to pay CZK 499,800 (85 %). A contribution in the amount of CZK 88,200 (15 %) will be paid from the sources of the Zlín Region. The Masaryk Museum, as a subsidized organization of the South Moravian Region, will not finalcially contribute to the project.

Here are our roots.
(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)
They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.
(Blessed John Paul II)
For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.
(Blessed John Paul II)
Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.
(Blessed John Paul II)
The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.
Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
(Blessed John Paul II)
