Past Years

Year 2012

The thirteenth year of the Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad was part of the prepared celebrations on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Cyril and Methodius to Great Moravia, which we will commemorate in 2013. The last year attracted some 21 thousands of people of goodwill.

The visitors could use a varied offer of programs. A new program was introduced at the Stojanov Pilgrims' House last year - a seminar titled "School of Love in Family According to Jiřina Prekopova". At various places of the village competitions took place as well as performances for children, exhibitions, workshops and a lot of other activities. Perennial Velehrad programs like Hand-Rewriting of the Bible, Contest in Football Skills, Velehrad to Children, IN! Magazine Program, International Meeting of Wheelchair Invalid Persons, Table Tennis Tournament and a number of other activities were commonplace. The climax of the program for children was the favorite Dagmar Patrasová.

Exhibitions and exhibition openings took place in the premises of Stojan’s grammar school and the Velehrad House of Saints Cyril and Methodius. There visitors could see, for example, the winning pictures of the art competition called The Way of the Two Brothers, the winning snaps of the photography contest - Velehrad 2011, illustrations to the book written by Petr Piťha "Slyšte slovo a zpívejte píseň" (Hear the word and sing the song), Jindřich Štreit's photographs or photographs taken by the Havlenas. Papal Mission works and church movements and communities introduced their work there as well.

Among those who performed at the benefit concert, the Evening of the People of Goodwill, were the Chinaski group, a young female singer who calls herself Elis, The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra from Zlín, Štěpán Rak and Alfréd Strejček and, of course, the fixed star of the Velehrad celebrations Jiří Pavlica with Hradišťan. The concert was broadcast in live transmission by the Czech Television and the Czech Radio 1 – Radiožurnál.

The yield from the donor text messages amounted to CZK 850,000 and it was evenly distributed among four non-profit organizations. The following ones were chosen for 2012: The Cyrillo-Methodian Church School in Brno, Citizens' Association ONŽ – aid and counseling for women and girls, the Center for Family Life Olomouc and the ADIUVARE Endowment Fund.
