Velehrad: More than twenty years ago, the Saturday before the Palm Sunday was proclaimed to be the World Day of the Youth by Pope John Paul II. That is why also this year on this day about 1,500 young believers will meet with Archbishop Jan. The program begins during the journey to the venue itself because from the station in Staré Město participants will walk on foot to the basilica at Velehrad and during a few stops in the course of their pilgrimage they will commemorate the journey of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
The peak of the morning program in the basilica will be catechesis by the Archbishop. Then, there will be a presentation of the deaneries as well as a new project called CM-caching. After lunch, young people will be able to choose from a great number of lectures on interesting topics, in which contemporary young people are interested. Among them there are relationships, Christians and politics, travelling, missions and others. For example, in his lecture, historian and archaeologist, Associate Professor Luděk Galuška, will explain life in Great Moravia and historical connections of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
For those who prefer art there is a concert of a group called Oboroh, a theater play written according to a diary of a priest imprisoned in a communist prison, or art workshops. There, those interested may create things from marzipan dough as well as bags with original printing. The whole time there will be an opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.
The program in the basilica, including the catechesis, will be broadcast by TV Noe from 10:30 a.m. Those watching TV will not miss even the holy mass at 3 p.m., which will close the whole meeting. For this year's meeting a motto "Witnesses to Faith" was chosen, which is in tune with the Cyrillo-Methodian anniversary. In the course of the program there will be space for personal testimonies. Hopefully, participants will come back from the meeting encouraged and decided to become witnesses of faith among their believing as well as unbelieving coevals.

Here are our roots.
(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)
They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.
(Blessed John Paul II)
For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.
(Blessed John Paul II)
Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.
(Blessed John Paul II)
The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.
Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
(Blessed John Paul II)
