Slovaks Organized a Cyrillo-Methodian Congress at Universities in Rome

The meeting of priests, scientists and other personalities was, with the support from Slovak institutions, organized by Archbishop Cyril Vasil, a representative of the Vatican Congregation for Eastern Churches, and Cardinal Jozef Tomko, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. "Now, we have eight Slovak professors here, who teach at Roman pontifical universities. Thus, we have said to ourselves, in the year of Saints Cyril and Methodius, we can contribute - in accordance with our abilities and on a certain higher academic level - here in Rome, where so many people from the whole world and from the whole church study, and to emphasize the meaning and the work of the missionaries," said Cardinal Tomko. Among the lecturers there is also a Czech Jesuit, P. Richard Čemus, and a number of leading representatives of the Vatican Curia. Cardinal Duka will stay in Rome also to attend the last general audience of Pope Benedict XVI and, on Thursday, he will celebrate a mass for Czech pilgrims, who came to say good-bye to the Holy Father. During his stay in the Eternal City, the Archbishop of Prague should meet also with a member of the Vatican Swiss Guard, Martin Holeček, who is a descendant of Czech emigrants.
