PILGRIMAGE AT SÁZAVA 2013

21. 2. 2013

Saturday 22nd June 2013
Whole-day program.

The pilgrimage at Sázava 2013 will be traditionally opened with a short pilgrimage to the Sázava Monastery, common singing and music of buglerers and a subsequent holy mass at the Northern garden of the monastery celebrated by the Patriarch of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in the presence of representatives of churches connected to the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition – Metropolitan Christopher who is the Metropolitan of the Czech Lands and Slovakia of the Orthodox Church, and Dominik Cardinal Duka, Archbishop of Prague of the Roman Catholic Church. Pilgrims can look forward to a music performance both before and after the holy masses (buglerers and choirs from the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, the Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church.)

The pilgrimage at Sázava 2013 will offer also a rich afternoon and evening program to all pilgrims in the form of music, theater and other programs. In the whole day program for parents with children and children (including children from orphanages), there will be games, quizzes, competitions and theater. Children will also be able to paint within an art contest called Cyril and Methodius. The figures of Cyril and Methodius (also in an acted form) will be present throughout the whole program in the outer as well as inner premises of the Sázava Monastery. Pilgrims can also look forward to a music and literary meeting at the Paradise courtyard of the monastery, an organ concert in the monastery church and to concert/s, or a music festival in the Northern garden of the monastery. In the crypt of the monastery church organizers are planning evening vespers in the Old Church Slavonic and an ecumenical meeting. In 2013, the pilgrimage at Sázava will be organized in cooperation with NPÚ – Sázava Monastery, which will - within the anniversary - join also the program offer of the pilgrimage – guided tours of the monastery "From Great Moravia to Abbot Prokop" in the course of the whole day, as well as special evening tours.

THE PILGRIMAGE AT SÁZAVA is organized byt the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in cooperation with NPÚ – the Sázava Monastery, supported by the city of Sázava and financial support of MK CR, CB Region, every year in the premises of the Sázava Monastery since 2001. It is an ecumenically open pilgrimage with a rich spiritual and cultural program - music, literary, artistic and theatrical program intended for the broadest public, including special programs (for parents with children, children from orphanages, elderly people and so on). The pilgrimage contributes to cultural and spiritual enrichment and thanks to the localization of the pilgrimage in the premises of the Sázava Monastery, in which a rich program takes place, brings the living legacy of Cyril and Methodius and Abbot Prokop. It also stimulates interest in new pieces of knowledge about the history and figures connected to the Sázava Monastery as an important place for the Czech history, but also the present time. The pilgrimage is, traditionally, supraregional and has an effect on the whole-country.

  • Here are our roots.

(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)

They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.

    (Blessed John Paul II)

  • For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.

    (Blessed John Paul II)

  • Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.

    (Blessed John Paul II)

  • The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.

Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.

    (Blessed John Paul II)
