SCHOOL OF CYRIL AND METHODIUS
On the occasion of the “Cyrillo-Methodian jubilee”, educational workshops for children and youth will emerge, the main aim of which will be to familiarize children with the Cyrillo-Methodian legacy in an amusing and practical way.
CHILDREN WALK THE WAY OF THE TWO BROTHERS
‘The Way of the Two Brothers’ is the title of an art competition for children 3 to 11 years of age. It is regularly announced within the July Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad. The aim of the project is to explain roots of our culture to children, impairing a positive model for life in the present.

Moravian Theater will Launch a World Premiere of an Opera, Libretto was Written by Bishop Hrdlička

Olomouc: Michael Tarant is the director of the production. Petr Šumník is the author of music and conductor. The premiere in the Moravian Theatre Olomouc will take place on Friday 28th June at 7 p.m.

The new piece in the opera repertoire remembers the anniversary connected with the personality of Paul Claudel, whose drama Annunciation to the Virgin Mary (1911) became a model for the opera called Night Full of Light. "A hundred years ago, Paul Claudel, who was the consul general of France, worked in our country. He was one of the great figures of world literary and dramatic production. Claudel was strongly influenced by the spiritual legacy of our history, to which he paid homage in a collection of poems titled "Holy Pictures of Bohemia", emphasized the author of the libretto to Night Full of Light, Josef Hrdlička, ordaining bishop of Olomouc. The launching of the opera is foreshadowing one more important anniversary. "The world premiere of Night Full of Light is our contribution to the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Cyril and Methodius to Great Moravia," said the director of the Moravian Theater Olomouc (MDO), Josef Podstata.

Direction was taken care of by a successful opera and drama director and the artistic director of the drama section of the MDO, Michael Tarant. The main female role will be played by Lea Vítková. "Violéna is a strong heroine; a personality who feels a calling to sacrifice herself. She is willing to bear her fate," Vítková explained. On the stage, she will be accompanied by Jiří Přibyl in the role of the Father, Zdeňka Mollíková in the role of the Mother, Barbora Polášková as Mara, David Szendiuch as Petr from Craon and Petr Martínek in the role of Jakub. The soloists will be accompanied by the MDO orchestra and choir.

1150th anniversary of Cyril and Methodius

Here are our roots.

They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.

For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.

Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.

The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.

Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
