Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad are surely the biggest celebrations connected with a national holiday of the Czech Republic. They have been taking place for 16 years already, on the occasion of the Day of the Slavonic Missionaries Saints Cyril and Methodius.

more informationOn the occasion of the “Cyrillo-Methodian jubilee”, educational workshops for children and youth will emerge, the main aim of which will be to familiarize children with the Cyrillo-Methodian legacy in an amusing and practical way.
‘The Way of the Two Brothers’ is the title of an art competition for children 3 to 11 years of age. It is regularly announced within the July Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad. The aim of the project is to explain roots of our culture to children, impairing a positive model for life in the present.
It is an important spiritual center, a destination of frequent ecclesiastic pilgrimages, gatherings and Cyrillo-Methodian celebrations.

The composed evening "Word and Song" will take place in the small auditorium of the House of Culture in Vsetín on Thursday 30th May at 7 p.m. It will be a social gathering with an aim to present Bulgarian culture, music, literary activities and also Bulgarian culinary art. Music accompaniment for this evening will be be taken care of by a group called Džezvica from Prague which sings Bulgarian and Balkanian songs. There is also a tourist reportage about Bulgarian mountains on the program. We will also view a short movie devoted to the footsteps of Cyril and Methodius in Bulgaria and Moravia and something from the TV series called "Šumné stopy", devoted to traces which Czech architects left in Bulgaria. In cooperation with the Masaryk Public Library in Vsetín a small exhibition of books written by Bulgarian authors translated to the Czech will be prepared as well as an exhibition of Czech books on the theme of Saints Cyril and Methodius. There will also be something to eat. A whole range of original Bulgarian vines are awaiting you as well as refreshments in the form of tracebulgarian pastry. Moreover, in the week beginning with 28th May, Days of Bulgarian Cuisine will be held in the restaurant of the House of Culture. The evening called "Word and Song" will be attended also by a delegation from Bulgaria led by the directress of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague, Mrs. Galina Todorova. Organizers will make use of her presence also during the opening of the exhibition of icons, which the Vsetín House of Culture will open in the gallery called The Old Townhall on that same day at 4 p.m.
Celebrations of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Cyril and Methodius to Moravia will continue in Vsetín on 18th June by an ecumenical holy mass in front of the Vsetín palace and a concert of Hradišťan in the House of Culture.
