Exactly one year ago, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra from Zlín, along with Jiří Pavlica and his group called Hradišťan, launched the anniversary year of Saints Cyril and Methodius with a concert titled Porta Peregrinorum in the Vatican. The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra and Hradišťan are ensembles which inseparably belong to the region of southeastern Moravia where the saint brothers came and where they worked. Today, this region is well-known for its rich repertoire of songs and music, which became an inspiration for a unique music project to open the Days of Slavic Culture in Kroměříž and the celebrations of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of missionaries Cyril and Methodius to Moravia. VIP special tickets for all the three concerts within the DAYS OF SLAVIC CULTURE are already available for purchase.
THE BOHUSLAV MARTINŮ PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA bears the name of one of the greatest Czech composers. Their repertoir consists of almost all symphonic works coming from various periods but also a great number of compositions from the present. Members of the orchestra have created a number of chamber ensembles and their performances supplement concert seasons with this kind of music. The concert activites of the orchestra consist of three sequences of season concerts and a number of extraordinary concerts. The orchestra has performed in all important centers in the Czech Republic – Prague, Brno, Ostrava, etc.
They also went abroad to Slovakia, Italy, Denmark, Hungary, Greece, Austria, Romania, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain and the USA. They cooperate with the radio, TV and record CDs on a regular basis. Worth mentioning is their cooperation with the Vienna Modern Maesters agency, which focuses on recordings of contemporary music, or the complete symphonic work by S. Rachmaninov realized by the Bayer Record company (Germany) and recordings of music composed by A. Dvořák for the Albany Records company (USA).
HRADIŠŤAN with its art director Jiří Pavlica is a unique group on a high artistic as well as interpretational level. It covers an unusually broad span of genres and has unconventional repertoir, a strong inspirational source of which - at the beginnings of its existence - was, above all, folk tradition. These days, Hradišťan is a professional group which programatically draws from the legacy of folk tradition and its philosophical overlap. It crosses the borders of music genres and cooperates with personalities coming from various cultures of the whole world.
It is a frequent guest of both domestic festivals of traditional, alternative and also classical music and such festivals organized abroad. It cooperates with the radio, television and film. It has performed on the 4 continents, has recorded more than 30 key CDs and cooperated in many more.

Here are our roots.
(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)
They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.
(Blessed John Paul II)
For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.
(Blessed John Paul II)
Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.
(Blessed John Paul II)
The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.
Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
(Blessed John Paul II)
