Olomouc: "We have decided for a different form of commemorating the anniversary of the arrival of Cyril and Methodius than it is usual. Young people are active and they like trying out new things. We believe that they will be interested in a combination of tourism, competition and tradition," explains Jitka Roubalová from the Archdiocesan center for the youth, who is responsible for the CM-caching project.
It is a tourist game based on the principle of geocaching. Small plastic boxes are hidden at places in a way connected with the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition. Their GPS coordinates are available at www.cm-caching.cz and the task for the player is to find those boxes using the satellite signal. A Czech word for a cache is "skrýš", so the name of the game suggests that the players are searching for Cyrillo-Methodian "skrýše".
In the territory of the Diocese of Olomouc more than fifty such caches are prepared. Most of them are located close to churches or chaples, which are consecrated to the missionaries, at their statues or also in places where, in accordance with the tradition, they stopped on their way to Moravia. Thus, those who will take part in this game will literally follow in their footsteps.
The whole event is intended for the youth but anybody can get involved. "I can imagine that, for example, a family with young children will connect a nice trip with a visit to a church and searching for the cache. Young people are also involved directly in the preparation of the project. Big thanks belong to all who were hiding the boxes and who take care of them," says Jitka Roubalová concerning tens of young volunteers.
The boxes contain little cards with a quotation from the Bible, a code and an interesting question related to Cyril and Methodius. The person who will find the cache will learn the answer to the question when he or she enters the code on the website. Thanks to these codes the organizers will be able to verify who visited most of the caches. There is also a contest. "The first twenty people who will manage to find at least twenty caches, will get a book as a reward. Above all, I am curious to learn if somebody succeeds in finding all of them. That is a real challenge," says Jitka Roubalová and she adds that several caches are located also in the territory of the Diocese of Brno, as well as the Diocese of Ostrava-Opava.

Here are our roots.
(Blessed John Paul II, 22nd April 1990, Velehrad)
They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.
(Blessed John Paul II)
For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.
(Blessed John Paul II)
Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.
(Blessed John Paul II)
The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.
Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
(Blessed John Paul II)
