SCHOOL OF CYRIL AND METHODIUS
On the occasion of the “Cyrillo-Methodian jubilee”, educational workshops for children and youth will emerge, the main aim of which will be to familiarize children with the Cyrillo-Methodian legacy in an amusing and practical way.
CHILDREN WALK THE WAY OF THE TWO BROTHERS
‘The Way of the Two Brothers’ is the title of an art competition for children 3 to 11 years of age. It is regularly announced within the July Days of the People of Goodwill at Velehrad. The aim of the project is to explain roots of our culture to children, impairing a positive model for life in the present.

An Offer of a Cycling Pilgrimage for the Brave: Thessaloniki - Velehrad 2013

A cycling pilgrimage in the footsteps of Saints Cyril and Methodius from Thessaloniki to Velehrad.

We will celebrate this year of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius with a cycling pilgrimage, which will lead from the birthplace of our missionaries to the place of their activities. Thus, from Thessaloniki to Velehrad. In the course of this journey we want to visit also places connected with the work of these saints and their disciples.

The beginning of the cycling pilgrimage is scheduled for Sunday afternoon of 16th May 2013. After a holy mass we will leave for Greece by bus. During the journey, we will have a safety break in the city of Ohrid in Macedonia. This city became a haven for the disciples of Saints Cyril and Methodius at the turn of the 10th century. At that time, they were expelled from the Great Moravian Empire. The city of Ohrid belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO. From there we will go Thessaloniki where we will have a free day to do some sightseeing. On Wednesday 19th June, we will leave Thessaloniki by bikes and we will continue via the towns of Valdanovo, Sveti Nikole, Nis, Belgrade (there a free day is in plan as well), Novi Sad, Pecs, Zalavar (formerly an important fortified settlement of Blatnohrad, where Saints Cyril and Methodius stayed during their journey from Great Moravia to Rome in 867), Nitra and in the evening of 4th July we will reach Velehrad. It is the date of 4th July 2013 that is the key date for our pilgrimage. On that day, the main celebrations of the anniversary of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius to Great Moravia will begin, and our cycling pilgrimage will be part of these celebrations.

The cycling pilgrimage from Thessaloniki to Velehrad will be supported by the Archbishop, Father Jan Graubner, as well as by the Zlín Region.

1150th anniversary of Cyril and Methodius

Here are our roots.

They wanted to become part of those nations and to share their destiny in everything. Here, in this place, at Velehrad, in Moravia, we can feel the historical legacy of the kingdom in a peculiar way – we can feel even those who became its keepers and guardians.

For us, people of the present age, their apostolate contains even the elocution of the ecumenical appeal, i.e. to build unity again, in a peaceful reconciliation, which later after their deaths was heavily damaged, and in the first place the unity between the East and the West.

Their work is also a very important contribution to the growth of the common Christian roots of Europe, which by their firmness and viability create one of the main contact points, which must be respected by every serious attempt at reunification of our continent in a new and topical way.

The story of both brothers, Cyril and Methodius, is a distinct example of unity.

Saints Cyril and Methodius contributed, to a great extent, to the building of Europe, not only regarding its Christian religious community but also concerning its civil and cultural unity.
